I spent the last few days in Austin, Texas, and it was wonderful! Here are some photos from my trip:

General observations about Austin:
+ There is no shortage of crazy drivers. They speed, make erratic lane changes without using their blinkers, and drive on the shoulder of the freeway. All while failing to buckle their seat belts.
+ Texans have a lot of state pride. I saw a plethora of inanimate objects shaped like Texas (see waffle above) as well as Texas state flags all over town. I’ve lived in Washington for the majority of my life and I never see anything Washington-shaped, save for the occasional magnet at the beach.
+ I have never seen so many mustaches, beards and mull-hawks (a cross between a mullet and a mohawk) in one place at one time. Oh, and tattoos. Good God, there were so many tattoos.
+ Texans aren’t really interested in following the rules if it doesn’t suit them. They smoke in clubs and bars, even though a law was recently passed to outlaw it, and (so I’m told) they occasionally drive over grassy medians to get to the roads running parallel to the freeway when traffic is bad. Why do they do this? BECAUSE THEY ARE TEXANS, AND TEXANS DO WHAT THEY WANT.
+ Everyone is so friendly and nice! People say hi when they walk past you, and not in a creepy way, but in a I-acknowledge-and-appreciate-your-humanity kind of way. They suggest good bars and restaurants, they compliment you on your clothes, and they seem genuinely interested in talking to you and helping you out if you need it. So different from dour Seattle-ites.
After this lovely trip, it is decidedly so: I am moving to Austin at the end of the summer. [!!!!!!!!!!!!!]
